π¬ A Zoom Call, A Mentor’s Grace, and an Unexpected Job: The Day I Got My Hope Back
This is not just a job story. It’s a faith story.
And I’m sharing it because someone out there—some international student, newcomer, or job seeker—needs this reminder today:
You’re not invisible. Your story still matters.
π¨π¦ The Reality
As an internationally trained doctor, I came to Canada full of dreams—
dreams of healing, serving, and rebuilding my career in a new country.
But what they don’t tell you is this:
-
That even with degrees, you’ll be asked for “Canadian experience.”
-
That even with skills, you’ll face silence after 100+ applications.
-
That volunteering at hospitals might help your heart, but not always your resume.
Like many of you, I started doubting myself.
Not my capabilities—but my place in this system.
π A Zoom Call That Changed Everything
Then I had the privilege to connect with Rodolfo Parlati.
A leadership mentor. A LinkedIn voice of wisdom. A human being with heart.
We got on a Zoom call, and I started sharing honestly:
-
I’m looking for work—anything in healthcare: pharmacy assistant, admin, PSW.
-
I’m volunteering. I’m building my profile. But the silence is loud.
-
I’m trying to create content—but engagement is slow.
-
And I’m feeling... stuck.
And just as I was pouring my heart out,
my phone rang. It was a job interview.
Yes—during the live Zoom.
π² What Rodolfo Did Next?
He smiled and said,
“Take it. I’ll wait.”
He paused our call—mid-mentorship—to let me take a live job interview.
Not many people would do that.
Not many would care enough to give you the space to say yes to life even in the middle of a scheduled conversation.
And that call?
It turned into a job.
π¦ I Got Hired. Accidentally.
I never thought I’d be saying this, but…
I got the job at Amazon.
Not in a lab. Not in a clinic. But in a place that said yes when others said maybe.
And that yes meant:
-
Stability.
-
Mental clarity.
-
Space to plan the next phase of my healthcare dream.
-
And proof that the system might be slow—but the universe listens.
π‘ What I Learned That Day
| Lesson | What It Taught Me |
|---|---|
| 1. Keep showing up, even when it’s awkward. | A breakthrough might happen in the middle of something messy. |
| 2. Generosity is leadership. | Rodolfo didn’t just advise. He created space for growth—in real time. |
| 3. Interviews don’t always look like interviews. | Sometimes life throws you a job in the middle of a story. |
| 4. Your journey might zigzag—and that’s okay. | Mine did. And I’m proud of every corner it took. |
π§ To Every International Student or Healthcare Graduate in Canada:
This post is for you, if you:
-
Graduated and still haven’t landed a job.
-
Feel like your credentials are collecting dust.
-
Wonder if anyone sees your potential.
-
Are one call away from giving up.
Let me say this again:
You are not behind. You are being prepared.
π¬ Let’s Talk
-
Drop a comment if you’ve ever felt like your “moment” might never come.
-
Tag someone who gave you space when you needed it.
-
Or just say “I’m still trying”—and I’ll celebrate that with you.
Because that’s what we do here.
We rise by rising with each other.
With all my heart,
Dr. Dhruv Bhikadiya
